Range Rover 2018 line-up features plug-in hybrid with 398bhp Jan 9, 2018

The plug-in model, called the P400e PHEV, comes with headline figures of 398bhp and 472lb ft of torque, along with 101mpg in the NEDC Combined economy cycle and 64g/km of CO2. Range Rover claims an electric-only range of 31 miles, with a rapid charging time of 2 hours and 45 minutes.

As well as an 85kW electric motor, this car also has a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with 296bhp. Land Rover claims 0-60mph in 6.4sec and a top speed of 137mph.

Other powertrains include a 3.0-litre V6 diesel with 254bhp and a 4.4-litre V8 diesel developing 334bhp. Conventional petrol powertrains are a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 unit with 335bhp and a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 developing 518bhp. The petrol V8 is also fitted to the top-of-the-range SVAutobiography model, where it develops 557bhp.

The range is available to order now, from £79,595 to £141,580 for the standard wheelbase and £112,900 to £177,030. First deliveries are expected in the spring.

The P400e has a 2.0-litre petrol engine, with an 85kW electric motor housed in the automatic gearbox. The lithium-ion battery is under the boot floor

The exterior has had a styling refresh, with a revised grille featuring a gloss black surround and a variety of mesh finishes depending on model, as well as a revised bumper.

The lower side accents and vent graphics have been refreshed, while at the rear the updated bumper integrates the exhaust outlets.

There are also new alloy wheel designs and body colours. Further customisation is provided by exterior styling packs, with either glossy black or Shadow Atlas (grey) highlights throughout.

Other features include a range of LED headlights, with 24 LEDs standard and up to 144 on top-spec versions.

Inside, Land Rover claims improved comfort, including front seats with up to 24-way movement thanks to the new seat frames, with wider and deeper foams as well as heated armrests. The rear seating has also been redesigned, without compromising space of comfort.

There are also up to 17 connection points including domestic plug sockets, USB, HDMI and 12-volt, along with 4G Wi-Fi hotspots for up to eight devices.

The Autobiography Long Wheelbase model now has seats that recline up to 40 degrees, as well as 186mm more legroom to provide 1,206mm in all.

Comfort features include heated and cooled seats, plus heated arm, foot and calf rests. All seat functionality can be controlled via a smartphone app, whether inside or outside the vehicle.

There’s also a new infotainment system, comprising two high-definition 10-inch touchscreens on the centre console.

The P400e has two driving modes. Parallel Hybrid (the default driving mode) and EV, which enables the vehicle to run solely on the electric motor.

Land Rover’s Terrain Response 2 technology has been calibrated to precisely distribute torque from the electric motor, which has no creep speed and is able to deliver maximum torque from zero rpm, to all four wheels. This gives greater control during low-speed manoeuvres off-road.

Rapid charging of the 13.1kWh lithium-ion battery is claimed to take 2 hours 45 minutes using a dedicated domestic 32amp wall box. The battery can be fully charged in 7 hours 30 minutes using the 10amp home charging cable. To alleviate fears of battery degradation, the P400e’s is covered by an eight-year, 100,000-mile, 70 per cent state of health warranty.

The 2.0-litre petrol engine is mounted longitudinally, with the 85kW electric motor housed in the ZF automatic eight-speed gearbox, alongside a 7kW on-board charger. You plug in it via a flap in the grille, while the lithium-ion battery is mounted under the boot floor. The P400e is available in both standard and long wheelbase body styles.

The SVAutobiography Dynamic is the most powerful production Range Rover to date. The output from its V8 supercharged petrol engine is up to 557bhp (a 15bhp increase), which delivers 0-60mph in 5.1 seconds. Styling revisions include an exclusive Graphite Atlas mesh grille with chrome inserts and a revised rear bumper with integrated metal tailpipe finishers.
